About

Managed by Lake Powell Navajo Tribal Park, Antelope Canyon is made up the "upper" and "lower" canyons. Made of Navajo sandstone offers gorgeous views and photo opportunities, Antelope Canyon is one of the biggest draws to the area. Navajo tour guides are mandatory for both canyons. The Navajo name for Lower Antelope Canyon is Hasdez twazi’, which means “the spiral role arches.” Lower Antelope Canyon is about 3, 704 feet in elevation and the canyon walls are about 120 above the streambed. The lower canyon is considered more beautiful and involves steep staircases. The Navajo name for Upper Antelope Canyon is Tse’bighanilini, which means “the place where water runs through rocks.” Upper Antelope is at about 4,000 feet elevation and the canyon walls rise 660 feet above the streambed. The upper canyon is considered more appropriate for children.
There are several Antelope Canyon tour guides to choose from, so browse through them to decide which is right for you.
