West Maui Coastline Tour
About The Tour
Here are just a few of the fun things you can do on the tour:
• Visit Maui Ocean Center
• Discover ancient Petroglyphs
• Check out the Nakalele Blowhole
• Snorkel at Honolua Bay
• Explore the Dragon Tooth trail
***IMPORTANT DRIVING ADVISORY***
This tour includes Kahekili Highway, a narrow and winding coastal road with tight lanes and blind curves that some visitors find challenging. After visiting the Nakalele Blowhole, drivers will have the option to turn around instead of completing the full loop. If you’re uncomfortable with narrow mountain roads or traveling with nervous passengers, we strongly recommend taking the turnaround option and prioritizing safety.

West Maui Coastline Tour FAQS
Information
Conditions can change fast. Please check these links for closures, alerts and local conditions before your trip. Stay informed so you can ensure a smooth ride for your trip.
Due to the March 2026 storms, you may notice some changes along your tour—things like temporary road closures, limited access to certain stops, or areas that are still recovering. Our routes are designed to guide you safely, but conditions can shift, so a little flexibility goes a long way.
As you explore, we ask that you travel with care and respect—for the land, the communities, and the people who call these places home. If an area looks closed or impacted, please honor posted signs and avoid entering. These moments are part of the story of Hawai‘i too, and your kuleana (responsibility) as a visitor helps keep these places protected for everyone.
Mahalo for your understanding, and for exploring with aloha 💛
Important Update!
‘Iao Valley State Monument: Will be CLOSED until June 26, 2026 for safety improvements.
Aloha Shaka Guiders,
I wanted to personally share a note about our West Maui tour, because it’s one of our most talked-about drives—and we want you to know exactly what to expect.
First, a little context. 6 of us recently went back to Maui as a team to retest this tour again in real life, with a mix of personalities and comfort levels, so we could experience it the same way you would. Here's the verdict:
Andrew drove and felt it was totally manageable—his advice: take it slow and steady when you need to, and you’ll be fine. I rode in the back seat and felt comfortable the whole way. Rita, who gets motion sickness easily, did great in the passenger seat. Rayne absolutely loved it (to the point of sticking his head out the window to look over the cliffs—classic daredevil). Shanuj, who’s used to driving along mountainous cliff roads in India, thought it was easy peasy. Jen, who has a fear of heights, didn’t enjoy the narrow section and strongly recommends that anyone with a similar fear turn around when the tour suggests doing so—and yes, our audio guide clearly tells you exactly when and where that option is.
The road itself is fully paved, but there is one section where the road narrows to a single lane with no guardrails. If two cars meet, one driver may need to carefully back up or slowly squeeze by. That’s the part some people love—and some people don’t.
We’re sharing all of this because we want you to feel informed, not pressured. Turning around is always okay. And the good news is that even if you decide to turn around at the recommended point, the drive up to that point is still incredibly beautiful—full of ocean views, lush scenery, and the kind of moments that make West Maui special. It’s absolutely worth your time, no matter how far you go.
Mahalo for trusting Shaka Guide and for letting us be part of your Maui adventure. Whether you go all the way or decide to turn around, we hope your West Maui drive feels scenic, memorable, and done entirely on your own terms.
With aloha,
Amy from Shaka Guide
